Ruth is an experienced teacher providing one to one instrument lessons, guest lecturing about the music industry at university level, offering tuition on software such as Sibelius, workshops on arranging for strings, and large scale music education projects with institutions (Music for Youth & AYM), ensembles (Berkeley Ensemble), orchestras (Royal Opera House), and many schools across the UK and Europe.

Ruth brings together her wealth of experience from her work within the music industry and the education sector, combined with her professional training to offer a range of courses for all ages and abilities. Ruth has a BMus(Hons) in Music and ABRSM Diploma in The Principles of Music Teaching.

Ruth teaches Piano, Violin and Viola from beginner to Diploma level. She teaches privately, in schools, and when in London worked for Junior Guildhall for Music Education Islington & St. Augustine's RC Primary School. Ruth also offers remote lessons online. As a firm believer and promoter of the benefits and joy learning music can give young children, Ruth was a committed member of the music department staff at St. Augustine's RC Primary School in Fulham 2009 - 2022. Coaching the school choir and teaching piano to students age 4 - 11 giving beginners the opportunity to reach up to Grade 5 standard before they began secondary school.  Ruth has an up to date and clear DBS Check.

Sibelius Lessons :

Ruth offers one to one tuition on how to get the most out of this software. Whether you're a complete beginner or need some troubleshooting advice on more detailed aspects of the programme, Ruth can offer guidance and share her years of experience using Sibelius to allow your creativity to simply flow.  She is highly aware of the frustrations that conveying an inspirational musical moment or idea into computer software such as Sibelius can create. It is a particular software that can seem notoriously complex to begin with, but after a few lessons on basic setups and simple shortcuts, students are soon writing away, and Sibelius becomes simply a vessel for creativity, as it should be. Lessons can take place in person or remotely online, please get in touch for more info.

Tuition on String Arranging :

Ruth has a vast catalogue of string arrangements she has written over the years, in a number of styles for a wide range of ensemble sizes. Whether the arrangements are written as stand-alone works, or for a string section required to blend effortlessly in to an existing song, Ruth can share the skills she has developed throughout her career that make string arrangements really shine.

 

Ruth also offers tuition for GCSE, A-Level, & HE Music students who have chosen to write for strings, not only offering to record their compositions played by London String Group's finest, but to work with students, enabling them to submit compositions featuring strings that really stand out. For more information please get in touch.

Ruth has experience working with large corporate companies such as Coca Cola, putting together music workshops, that inject energy and enthusiasm into a team and help them work better together.
